  Señor Irvin's Life Hi my name is Glen Irvin and I am the Wabasha-Kellogg High School Spanish teacher. I have been named the W-K Teacher of the Year. This is a brief autobiography of my teaching career and my family. I was born in El Paso, Texas. Eventually my family moved to Roswell, New Mexico and that’s where I went to high school. At Goddard High School, I ran cross-country, played basketball and was a high jumper and hurdler in track. In high school, I had a great Spanish teacher who was my inspiration for becoming a teacher. After graduating from high school, I decided to attend Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. I met my wife in college my freshman year and we have been together ever since. I graduated in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish Secondary Education. My wife and I moved to California where I got my first teaching job. I kept busy while in California coaching all three seasons of the year (cross-country, girls’ basketball and track). My wife and I decided to move back to Colorado and we moved to Colorado Springs. I taught Spanish at Lewis-Palmer High School and coached girls basketball and track. We didn’t like the city life so ended moving back to Alamosa and I began teaching in a tiny school in Moffat, Colorado. I ended up teaching and coaching there for three years. After three years, we decided to move to the Midwest closer to my wife’s family. I ended up getting interviews for jobs in 8 schools in Minnesota and a couple in South Dakota over my Spring Break in Colorado. I flew out to Minnesota and rented a car. My second interview was here in Wabasha. I didn’t know how to get here from New Prague so I took highway 60 into town and I was blown away by the Mississippi River Valley. I accepted the job at Wabasha-Kellogg and I am enjoying my fifth year as the Spanish teacher. The students and staff at this school are awesome. I love teaching Spanish and coaching the students here. Last year, my wife and I had our first child our son, Lyzander. He is currently working on his running, soccer and speaking skills. The community, the school and the people here in Wabasha have welcomed us with open arms. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else in the world!! |
