Dan Murtha, Elementary Principal

I would like to take this opportunity to formally introduce myself. I am Dan Murtha and am honored to be the elementary principal at W-K. I have met many of you as this is my third year in the district. For the past two years, I was the preK-12 assistant principal, but my role has changed this year where I will be able to spend more of my energy at the elementary school.

Just a little background on me prior to coming to Wabasha-Kellogg, I spent 16 years in the classroom where I taught mostly at the middle school level in both Wisconsin and Minnesota primarily teaching math. Along the way, I was a math intervention teacher, an online school coordinator, peer coach coordinator, and an instructional coach. I grew up in Hammond, WI, but my wife, Michelle, and I currently live just south of River Falls. We now have three dogs (a golden retriever puppy joined our family this summer), and we enjoy spending time at our cabin in northern Wisconsin with family and friends. Some of my hobbies include fishing, hunting, kayaking, and cruising around on our side-by-side. I also come from a musical family - my dad still plays in a band and I played in my own band a few years ago.

I look forward to continuing the work we’ve started at Wabasha-Kellogg in establishing the Falcon Way with our core values of being safe, respectful, and responsible. I also look forward to continuing to support the students and staff in providing the best learning opportunities so that all students can demonstrate growth and strive for excellence. I am excited about my new role in the district and in partnering with the community in ensuring the success for our students for this school year and for many more years to come!
