Intro Stats Syllabus Room: 115 Department: Mathematics Instructor: Mr. Chris Keller Phone: 651-565-3559 Email: Course Description The sequence of topics provides an introduction into statistics and probability. As a class we will be looking at different ways statistics is used and can be seen in the world today. Some of the topics included are summarizing and graphing data, statistics for describing, exploring and comparing data, probability, probability distributions, the normal curve, and estimates and sample sizes. Students will gather data and than use that data to solve a variety of problems ranging from word problems to graphing. Required Materials
Classroom Expectations Be Ready- Be on time to class with completed homework and all necessary materials. Be Respectful- Respect all persons, property, and yourself. Be Responsible- Participate in all class activities, get help when you need it, make up missed work, and accept consequences for your actions. Grading Policy Your quarter grade is based on points earned from tests/quizzes, homework, and projects. Your 1st semester grade will be 45%- 1st quarter, 45%- 2nd quarter, and 10% semester test. Your 2nd semester grade will be 45%- 3rd quarter, 45%- 4th quarter, and 10% semester test. Grading Scale: A 92-100% A- 90-91% B+ 87-89% B 82-86% B- 80-81% C+ 77-79% C 72-76% C- 70-71% D+ 67-69% D 62-66% D- 60-61% F below 60% Homework Homework will be assigned daily. If it is a book assignment it must follow the accepted format or it will be given no credit. Homework will make up approximately 30-40% of your quarter grade. It is very important for you to do all assigned problems. Homework points are based on effort and correct work- you must show work to receive credit. Daily assignments will be worth 4 points.
Tests and Quizzes You will be tested on each chapter. Tests will be based on correct work as well as correct answer. You will also be given quizzes to check for understanding. Tests and quizzes will make up approximately 60-70% of your quarter grade.
Attendance Regular attendance is very important to obtain the maximum benefit of the class. If you are absent from class it is your responsibility to find out what you missed and complete any assignments that were given. As outlined in the Wabasha Handbook, you will be marked tardy if you come late to class without a pass. If you are tardy 3 times in a quarter, it will equal 1 unexcused absence for the class and result in a detention. If you have 6 or more tardies you will be referred to the office. If you are tardy 10 minutes or more it will be recorded as an unexcused absence. Note: An unexcused absence will result in one increment grade reduction (i.e. grade changes from C to C-) and office consequences. Keys to succeeding in Intro Stats
