The unofficial results of the November 7th, 2023 Wabasha-Kellogg School District Bond Referendum show local voters approved the ballot question; 762 yes, 468 no.

We would like to thank everyone who took the opportunity to vote!

The Wabasha-Kellogg School District has spent the past year looking critically at the needs of the District's facilities. After an in-depth facility assessment, analysis of educational needs, and review of enrollment projections, a plan was developed to update the school to position the district for the future.

The Wabasha-Kellogg School District will ask voters to support a $16.2 million bond referendum on November 7, 2023.

WHAT PROJECTS WILL BE COMPLETED WITH THE BOND?

  • Update and Replace Building Infrastructure and Systems
A significant portion of the building’s roof is beyond its service life and will be replaced. In addition, portions of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system will be upgraded and/or replaced. The electrical system and elevator will be updated. The building’s fire protection system will be updated.

  • Update and Expand the Career and Technical Education Labs (Shop)
The high school’s shop area, now known as the Career and Technical Education (CTE) lab, is nearly 50 years old and needs to be updated and expanded to increase course offerings, improve educational experiences, and provide access to the latest equipment and technology.

  • Update Science Labs
The high school’s science classrooms have not been renovated since their original construction in 1974. They will be redesigned to allow greater flexibility for project-based learning activities and better access to technology. The lab stations will get updates to plumbing and cabinetry as well as modifications to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

  • Creation of Secure Main Entrances
The schools’ offices will be redesigned to improve operational efficiencies and route visitors through main offices to check in before having access to the school.

  • Add and Update Restrooms
The restrooms will be expanded and updated to address failing fixtures and meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) code requirements.

  • Renovate High School Classrooms and Media Center
The high school was built in 1974 with an open concept library and a large portion of space for lockers. Lockers will be relocated throughout hallways, allowing the existing locker area to be repurposed into an educational breakout space. The library will be separated into small group collaboration and project-based learning spaces. The music room will be remodeled to improve space use and acoustics while providing needed storage for equipment. The classrooms used for special education services will be renovated to provide space for both large and small group instructional space.

WABASHA-KELLOGG SCHOOL DISTRICT PROPOSED PROJECTS

WHAT WILL THE BOND COST ME?

The below chart shows the additional tax impact of the $16.2 million bond for various property types and values.

*For all agricultural property, estimated tax impact includes a 70% reduction due to the School Building Bond Agricultural Credit. Average value per acre is the total estimated market value of all land & buildings divided by total acres. If the property includes a home, then the tax impact on the house, garage, and one acre of land will be calculated in addition to the taxes per acre, on the same basis as a residential homestead or non-homestead property. If the same property owner owns more than approximately $2.15 million of agricultural homestead land and buildings, a portion of the property will be taxed at the higher non-homestead rate.
