Building Sentences Protocol

 

*WATCH VIDEO DEMONSTRATION

 

Materials Needed: ALL FOUND IN STUDENT FOLDER

*Word Reading Student Copy (Found in Weekly Packet)

*Blank Word Box Sheet (Found in Left Side of Folder)

*Scissors

*Pencil

*Zip-loc Bag (Found in Left Side of Folder)

 

  1.  Adult cuts apart Word Reading word list.
  2. Adult cuts apart the Blank Word Box Sheet
  3. Adult chooses 10 words.
  4. Student reads the 10 words out loud.  Adult helps student pronounce words if needed.
  5. Student uses the words to create a sentence.  If another word is needed to make the sentence, adult writes the word needed on one of the blank boxes.
  6. Student reads the sentence back to the adult before coming up with a new sentence.
  7. Student should come up with 3-5 sentences.
  8. Keep cut apart words in Zip-loc bag.
  9. Try to use new words every day.
  10. Throw away words after the week but KEEP Zip-loc.

 

 

 

1st-2nd Sight Word Protocol

Sight Word Fluency Protocol

 

*WATCH VIDEO DEMONSTRATION

 

Materials Needed: All Found in Student Folder

*Fluency Passage (Found in Weekly Packet)

*Highlighters (4 Different Colors)

 

  1. Highlight each of the four sight words at the top of the paper in the boxes each a different color.
  2. Find the sight words found in the passage and highlight them with the same color as the boxes at the top.
  3. Student reads the passage to the adult.
  4. Adult helps student with unknown words.
  5. Student colors in a smiley face at the bottom of the page once they read the story.
  6. Student reads the passage a second time trying to become more fluent.  Student colors a second smiley face at the bottom of the page.
  7. Student reads the passage a third time and should read without mistakes.  Student colors in the last smiley face at the bottom of the page.
  8. OPTIONAL: Students may draw a picture in the dashed box to illustrate the story.
